Afterschool Program Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Programs Jenna Collins, Community Youth Council
Pay Range: $22.09 - $24.42 an hour based on education and experience
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, health insurance stipend, and a retirement fund match
Status: Part-time, 20 hours per week (dependent on grant funding)
Summary
The Kiln Youth Center provides youth with a free venue committed to establishing a safe and supportive environment for the young members of the community to come together, build connections, and acquire valuable resources. This role organizes programs at The Kiln. Core programs include health and wellness, recreation/drop-in activities, future preparedness, and academics. The bulk of program delivery and coordination happens on-site at RiseUp Red Wing.
Key Responsibilities of the Afterschool Program Coordinator
Leadership
Supervise youth in attendance at The Kiln
Work with the Community Youth Council, co-workers, Director of Programs, and Executive Director to ensure all program outcomes align with The Kiln’s vision, and agencies’ and programs’ goals
Supervise and support adult mentors, program volunteers, and program partners
Conduct and track volunteer background checks
Maintain relationships and schedules with adult mentors, volunteers, and program partners in planning and organizing mentoring meetings and programming
Determine, implement, and foster partnerships to benefit youth
Attend board, partnership, community, and staff meetings as assigned
Communicate all programming needs to the Director of Programs and Community Youth Council
Support youth leadership opportunities and advocacy for youth to address their concerns in the community
Programming
Develop and coordinate The Kiln programming in collaboration with the Community Youth Council, co-workers, community partners, volunteers, and Director of Programs by attending staff, committee, and assigned partner meetings, researching best and promising practices in the field, and learning about community gaps and needs
Work closely with the marketing team for the advertisement of The Kiln
Support in teaching social-emotional and independent living skills
Collaborate with community partners to bring in powerful learning opportunities that align with student’s cultural learning needs
Keep track of scheduled programming with community partners and volunteers
Support in teaching to ensure volunteers have training on academic support, social skills development, and emotional management skills development
Manage communications and organization participation of adult volunteers and tutors
Keep parents informed about participation and behavior
Work directly with the Parent Engagement Coordinator to ensure family support exists
Organize and track all activities; assist with arrangements for transportation and chaperon youth
Ensure the youth are completing education-related milestones
Administrative
Track expenditures
Complete accurate case documentation, including contact case notes; conduct all required assessments for youth; gather and enter accurate intake and outcomes data into reporting systems; track youth documents in assigned files and ensure files are complete
Participate in fundraising development and events by coordinating youth participation
Must complete 40 hours of paid professional development training per calendar year
Other duties as assigned and necessary to ensure the continued success of all programs

Preferred Skills and Experience
Bilingual Spanish/English language skills
Life experience as an underrepresented parent working to support student education services
Life experience during adolescence as a youth who used intervention services
Demonstrated ability to use integrity and cultural competency
Experience working with families or students who are underserved/underrepresented
Leadership, coaching, community organizing, or group facilitation experience
Experience working in settings with youth receiving educational, mental health, or independent living services
Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, or a related field

Math Literacy Workers

Reports to: Director of Cradle to Career Initiatives
Pay Range: $15/hour, based on education and experience
Time Commitment: School year and summer, 30 to 40 hours of training
Status: Part-time, 7 to 10 hours per week
Summary
Math Literacy Workers (MLW) are young people (high school and college students) who teach math-based activities to younger children in their neighborhoods and communities. Through an ongoing cycle of learning, practice, teaching, and reflecting to evaluate the effectiveness of their work, MLWs learn the math concepts they need well enough to teach them to others and develop the social and professional skills to support learning experience for younger peers and to work collaboratively. Key Responsibilities of Math Literacy Workers
Receive training
Plan (revise/create lesson plans, assign roles, collect materials)
Practice and professional development (mock facilitate, give each other feedback)
Debrief (middle schooler student responses to each activity, most/least effective, needs improvement)
Create or design a new game or activity
Team-building activities (with fellow MLWs, teachers, and staff)
Review training materials or math content to ensure understanding
Full participation is expected/required
Teach STEM content to middle school students
Plan and implement activities for programming
